We need your help. What did we do wrong?
A buddy and I have been developing WP plugins for 3 years. No one wants them.
-
Basically no active installations on wp.org (fewer than 10)
-
Basically no downloads on our homepage
We believe that our plugin should get some downloads because:
-
It's the best one from a technical standpoint (replaces in the whole DB and not just some tables)
-
Our SEO ranking is excellent
-
We did some social media marketing (e.g. posts on Reddit)
-
We think there is a need for better image management in WP
-
There are sooo many WP installations in the world. Even 0.1% is a lot.
So clearly, some belief of ours is wrong.
-
No one cares about the technical view?
-
No one searches for WP plugins on Google?
-
AI doomed us 🧨
-
No one needs an image renaming plugin for WP?
We don't get it, but would like to. Maybe an external perspective can open our eyes.
Why does no one download our plugin? Should we flush our plugin down the 🚽?

Reddit - Rename images in the whole database, not just in some places

Hey guys,
we are two devs who built a free & open source image renaming plugin (GPLv2).

Code on GitHub: https://github.com/neo-wp/neowp-plugins
Image references can live in post content, metadata, serialized options, page builder data, WooCommerce fields, custom tables. Updating only attachment metadata or post content is often not enough.
So we built a small free/open-source plugin that tries to solve this by scanning broadly and updating references where the old filename appears, including serialized data.
We wanted it to be beautiful, simple, fast, free & open source. There is a Pro version, but the free version is fully usable and does not hard-push upsells.
I’m mainly looking for technical feedback:
-
Would you trust a broad database update approach for this?
-
What do you think about the usability of the plugin?
-
Anything missing?
(I’ve checked the subreddit rules and hope this kind of useful OSS project is ok to share. I genuinely believe that the plugin is really useful.)

Hey everyone 👋 We’re Johannes & Paul from neo WP.
Our latest plugin is neoRename: a powerful media renamer for WordPress focused on reliability, SEO and bulk workflows.
With neo Rename you can:
- ✅ Rename filenames, titles and slugs
- ✅ Bulk rename thousands of media files
- ✅ Automatically update references across the whole database
- ✅ Keep SEO intact with 301 redirects
- ✅ Use regex, search & replace, prefixes/suffixes and automation tools
One thing users especially love: neo Rename updates references far beyond standard post content. This includes ACF fields, PHP arrays, builders and custom database structures.
We launched after nearly 3 years of development and polishing. The project originally started because we were frustrated by existing media renamers breaking URLs or missing references in real production sites. So we built the tool we always wished existed ourselves.
We use Freemius for licensing, checkout, subscription handling, upgrades and analytics across our plugin ecosystem. Integration was surprisingly smooth and helped us focus much more on product development instead of infrastructure.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
We’re Johannes & Paul, the team behind neo WP: A small WordPress-focused developer team from Germany.
neo Rename started from a problem we kept running into ourselves: renaming media files in WordPress without breaking URLs, references or SEO was way more painful than it should be.
So we built a modern media renamer focused on speed, reliability and bulk workflows.
With neo Rename you can:
✅ Rename filenames, titles and slugs
✅ Bulk rename thousands of files
✅ Use regex + search & replace
✅ Automatically update references across the database
✅ Keep SEO intact with 301 redirects
It works with images, videos, PDFs, WooCommerce and major page builders.
Would love to hear your feedback and ideas ❤️

Hey developers! I'm looking for feedback on a plugin I've been building with a colleague for a long time.
It's an image renaming plugin that replaces image references in the whole database. Most plugins can only do that in some database tables. This one finds everything, everywhere.
It also has a bulk renaming mode built in.
Something that I just think is quite cool: When you enter an emoji as the filename, it automatically replaces it with the emoji description in the resulting filename.

(Second try after the first attempt was somehow blocked? I read through the rules and didn't find a violation 🤔)

Hello everyone,
Wanted to share what I've been working on with my colleague for the last three years full-time. A WordPress plugin series for media plugins! The first one is neo Rename, for renaming images. Yes, there are still people developing WordPress plugins. No, it's not vibe coded.
A few things that make neo Rename stand out:
-
Fast bulk renaming for thousands of files
-
Live preview before applying changes
-
Regex search & replace, numbering, prefixes/suffixes, case conversion, and more
-
Clean workflow focused on speed and usability
-
Modern UI instead of outdated utility tool UX
-
Replaces references in the whole database including custom tables (no other plugin does this to my knowledge, happy to be corrected about this)
We’re actively improving it and adding more advanced automation features over time.
Everything is open source and publicly available on GitHub. Feedback, feature ideas, and contributions are always welcome.
